The Coronation of King Charles III

THE KING

On Friday 5th May 2023, some of our students planted a Cherry tree to commemorate the upcoming coronation of the King. They did an excellent job digging and planting.

We have planted it at the front of the college for all to enjoy. We look forward to watching it grow. This will be a beautiful reminder of this significant occasion in British history.

Street Art Community Project

A small group of our students were invited to take part in a subway art community project in Chelmsford. Four students worked with local artists called Brave Arts who previously worked with our students at the college to create our stage mural. They had a great time and also did something they had never experienced before. The artists were really impressed by the behaviour and skills of our students.

  • Local Artists visit College

As part of our Work Linked Learning provision, we have been inviting local artists in to the College to display their work in our Thriftwood Gallery and to talk to our students about their techniques and what it is like to be an artist. Our artist for December was Colin Steed, who has been teaching, exhibiting and painting commissions for many years and became a professional in 1998. He has led many courses in this country and abroad and writes for ‘Leisure Painter’ magazine. He is a familiar face to some of our students as he is also a Site Manager at Thriftwood School! On Tuesday 18th December, Colin gave a demonstration of a watercolour painting which the students and staff were enthralled with and was of great benefit to the students.
