About

Student Voice

Students from both Key Stage 4 and 5 form the body of the Student Voice.

A member of staff works with the students to listen to their views on all aspects of College life. It is a great opportunity for students to express their opinions and suggestions and to allow their voice be heard.

Aims of the Student Voice:

  • To listen
  • To talk
  • To highlight concerns
  • To make suggestions
  • To help implement change

Responsibilities of the Student Voice:

  • Feedback concerns/ideas back to the Senior Leadership Team
  • Plan and organise fundraising events for a variety of charities
  • Support activities to raise awareness for National Awareness Days
  • Perform room surveys to ensure there is adequate equipment readily available

Examples of changes made by the Student Voice:

  • Resurfacing, new surrounding netting and goals for the Astroturf area
  • Redesign of the Key Stage 5 Common Room
  • Additional leisure equipment sourced for the outdoor areas, for use at break and lunch times
  • New signage around the College building
  • Outdoor Gym Equipment
  • Additional outdoor bins purchased
The Student Voice has had to adapt the way they run during the pandemic. They have created on the Thriftwood College YouTube Channel ThriftNews to enable them to update everyone on any changes that have been implemented.
Although they have been unable to mix Key Stages to meet and discuss matters, key members of staff who work with the Student Voice have been visiting tutor groups on a regular basis to give everyone the opportunity to voice their views and feedback.
